There has been considerable recent media coverage of allegations of exploitation in the domiciliary and residential Care Sectors, which have resulted in police investigations. Those identified as potential victims, have in the main been sponsored on a Health and Care or Skilled Worker visa from overseas.
The MSOICU, in partnership with the Clewer Initiative have developed a training resource primarily focused on those commissioning care, owning and running residential care properties or working in the care sector. However, it is also a useful source of information and advice for those receiving care in their homes or in a residential setting, as it is aimed at raising the awareness of how to spot and report possible exploitation and is split into 2 parts:
Part 1 being a general overview of what modern slavery is and the different types of exploitation that can exist. Part 2 focuses on specific scenarios within the care sector, that workers could observe or experience themselves.
The resource has includes a slide pack, flyers and further documents and is accompanied by facilitator notes.
